Consider the Lilies is a one-of-a-kind ceramic relief by April Dupuis of The Potter’s Hands Studio in Oxford, Mississippi. A single bloom opens across the full width of the panel in thick palette-knife relief, worked white on white, with small hand-sculpted clay blossoms clustered at the edges and strokes of gold and silver leaf at the corners. It is presented in a white shadowbox frame and measures [H]” × [W]”. From the Flourish collection, after Matthew 6:28–29.

Description

About the piece

This is the quietest piece in the collection and the hardest to make. With no color to carry the composition, the entire image depends on relief — how deep the knife goes, which direction the stroke runs, where light catches an edge and where it falls away. The petals radiate from a single sculpted center outward past the frame.

“Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: and yet I say unto you, that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.” — Matthew 6:28–29

The gold at the corners is Solomon’s glory, kept at the margins. The flower is white.

About the Flourish collection

Flourish is a series of hand-sculpted ceramic relief works drawn from the promise that dry places are made to bloom. Each piece is built in clay, textured, sculpted, and finished with metal leaf, then framed as wall art. No two are alike, and none are reproduced.
